About this piece "Self-love is a buzzword that has been talked a lot about lately. There is plenty of “love yourself” vibes and messages being shared through social media, which is wonderful and I love it, but still have struggled to practice this myself. I seem to have plenty of compassion for others, but hardly any for myself. As I age I am realizing that I only have this one life. This one body. I am proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish in my life, but I am still my biggest critic. I am the first to tell myself how I could have done better, to point out what my shortcomings are. And frankly, I am sick of it. Self-compassion is what this dance is about. Each time I have performed it, it has been a totally different piece. Sometimes I tear up, some times I smile the entire time. Usually it is a mix of emotions. And while this might not be the strongest dance I have ever created, I like this new path, this radical path of self-love." Performed at Dance Mission Theater in San Francisco, CA.
